Cranbrook Architectural Drawing Collection
Cranbrook Architecure Slides Collection
Cranbrook Hand-Colored Glass Slide Collection
This collection consists of images taken primarily during the 1920s and 1930s of the various campus institutions. Many were taken by architectural photographers for inclusion in publications, and all were originally developed in black and white. The hand-painted watercolors were done at a later time by an unknown artist(s). Although these are the earliest known color images of the campus, they should be considered works of art and are not alwasys true to color.
Cranbrook Historic Photograph Collection
The bulk of the collection depicts the changing faces and landscape at Cranbrook for over 100 years. Architecture, faculty, students, artwork, activities and events, clubs, athletics and more are featured in over 500,000 images taken by Cranbrook staff photographers from 1931-1970. From 1970 to present, various contract photographers also captured the campus on film. In addition, the Archives has photograph collections (including photograph albums) acquired as part of manuscript collections that document the Booth and Saarinen Families as well as life on campus.
George Gough Booth Papers
Pleasures of Life
This collection consists of a series of photograph albums put together by Henry Scripps Booth, son of the founders, George and Ellen Booth. The albums include images of Cranbrook building development, Henry's school years, family travel and Henry's life after his marriage to Carolyn Farr. Each album has been digitally photographed by page and then added to the collection as a compound object. There are fourteen albums, spanning the years 1911-1940.
