Cranbrook Schools students honored for outstanding music achievements Bloomfield Hills, Mich. – Several Cranbrook Schools students were recently recognized for their outstanding performances in musical competitions.
Six Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School students received first division ratings at the Michigan Schools Vocal Music Association’s (MSVMA) District Solo and Ensemble Festival and received medals for their performances. The students – eighth graders William Chundrlik of Rochester Hills, Leah Fried of Birmingham, Sarah Harper and Leila Pastore of Bloomfield Hills, Rachel Wittkopp of Pleasant Ridge and seventh grader Kirk Norton of Bloomfield Hills – performed two memorized solos in contrasting styles. Two students sang in Italian and one in Spanish. The MSVMA is a non-profit professional organization of vocal music educators founded in 1937 dedicated to improving, promoting and assisting vocal music education in Michigan middle and high schools.
More than 50 Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School students received first (superior) and second (very good) division ratings at the Michigan Schools Band and Orchestra Association's (MSBOA) District Solo and Ensemble Festival and received medals for their performances. All first division soloists and ensembles are now eligible to compete in the state festival on March 25.
The MSBOA is a professional association of more than 1,700 Michigan instrumental music teachers. Founded in 1934, it has grown to a 16-regional district basis in both peninsulas, serving more than 1,200 public, parochial and private schools. Each year more than 60,000 Michigan students participate in MSBOA festivals either individually or as part of a larger group.
